Football match abandoned after player sustained severe injury

An Irish Cup football match has been abandoned

after a player suffered a head injury when he hit a wall.

The fifth round game was between Larne and Carrick Rangers at Inver Park, Larne, on Saturday.

In the 28th minute, Larne defender Scott Irvine slid off the pitch and crashed into a wall.

He was carried from the grounds on a stretcher.

It is understood he had regained consciousness before he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
